Howdy all, Allan from Adelaide here. Was collecting for quite a few years, a little bit of gold, a fair bit of silver coinage, one platinum, and a palladium Emu boxed set. Have been retired for a couple of years and haven't really purchased bullion since then, but have a little bitcoin and solana. I also collected car and motorcycle models over the years.

Welcome! What your thoughts on bullion vs crypto right now?

Crypto can never be compared to gold bullion, firstly you cannot hold it in your hand, so it is not real, secondly it cannot be converted to gold or cash, thirdly it cannot be used in everyday transactions, so crypto in my opinion and experiences has no real value at all.

Michael is right, I prefer to be able to physically hold bullion, however I wish I had bought crypto when I first looked at bitcoin at $36...
And now you would still have nothing, as you cannot convert to cash or any type of usable currency

??? I was able to convert crypto to cash at an Australian exchange, then send to an Australian Bank account.

I'm aware of some Australian Banks limiting how much you can send to a crypto exchange ($10K per month), which raises the argument it is your money so you should be able to invest\lose it as you decide.

Aside from above, I don't dabble in crypto any more, too confusing for taxes and risk is too high as can come down as quickly as it moves up.
