Other Anyone ever paid in gold before?

Have you ever bought anything in gold before? Just haven't found too many that will accept it as a payment. Curious if anyone else has success.

No, but in the past I have seen someone create an embedded paper note with it's value embossed into the material with Gold, I think the guy was Australian, I'll try to find the link.

Here is another concept from Dubai, but hey are a whole other level of trade there.


Also, I liked the idea of the Saudi Gold tabs that can be used in small amounts to pay for things. I'd imagine you would only part with this for much higher valued items where people are willing to trade/barter and understand Gold value. It's how we used to do things in the old world before fiat I imagine.

In the gold mining camps of old there was usually a scales on the counter of salloons and general stores....The miners would have their purse or poke of gold dust and nuggets and sprinkle out enough gold to satisfy the proprietor.
There are stories of people panning out the dirt under the floorboards of the old saloons to recover the spilled gold..

Modern day I have done some trading of junk silver coins for things. Buyer and seller both agree on the worth.. I anticipate in the coming hard times my pre 64 coins might be usefull.

yes gold is very commonly used in north qld for transactions, propectors from the Palmer area often pay for Deisel, petrol, gas, smokes, alcohol and a meal at the local roadhouse, never exchanged for cash , just credit. In the camps vehicles, detectors, generators, trucks, machinery & plant, wages , all sorts get paid for in gold, very common, At a local produce store when time to pay, I was asked cash or card, I responded cash or gold, and the lady promptly produced a set of scales. I now do a lot of business there.

Eagle, Alaska has gold scales out on the counter of many businesses. Throughout the State many heavy equipment sellers accept coin or dust.

Wow guys that's really cool! How do they know someone is not trying to pull some shenanigans with gold plated lead or something? Is there a way to tell if gold is solid?

I've accepted gold for my services before. I actually would prefer to accept metals over cash and wish there were more people willing to part with their metals. I think we'll get there, but, right now, most people are buy and hold til they have to sell.

I'll just say .....in montana it is a universal concealed carry state.....my bullion store has a loaded AR15 hanging on the wall behind the cash register.
