    Coin/Round Stacking copper

Hey MA, I like following the economics of copper too. I remember always hearing that copper is a leading indicator of economic activity, because of its uses in industry. Lets hope it continues :) Lots of the old landline phone companies here in the USA have been running projects to pull the...

    Coin/Round Stacking copper

I dont have any native copper currently but i would see them sometimes when the field techs that i worked with would find them out in the desert and sometimes thru the local auction house i went to. Most of what ive seen are more of the flat type that are encrusted with other minerals etc. They...

Display/Stack Can you identify this unknown coin or whatever it is?

It could be something called Plate Money. circa 17th and 18th centuries. Sweden and Russia issued them and possibly others. But I couldn't see any distinguishable markings in the pictures.

    Gold vs Bitcoin

All good points Aureo. I think the Fed will probably start cutting rates again soon too.

    Coin/Round Stacking copper

Yeah that was the fastest way for me. It can take some time getting used to the sound difference but the copper should have a distinct bell ringing sound when dropped on a flat hard surface. I used some of the pre 82 known copper pennies to get used to the sound difference for awhile first...

    Coin/Round Stacking copper

Really nice samples Otto! I especially like the raw Cu found in nature. They used to find them in Arizona too and were always interesting to see.

    Coin/Round Stacking copper

Good point, Oz. For the copper pennies, I used to store them about a 5" diameter PVC pipe that I would buy at Home Depot and cut them to about 3-4ft lengths and cap one side and then have a twist cap (Cleanout plug) at the other end. All standard plumbing supplies but they worked great for...

    Coin/Round Stacking copper

Yeah i went thru similar. Even with the 1982 transition year coins and sorting out the copper ping, from the zinc thud sound tests. Crazy to see those zinc pennies almost worth face value now on Coinflation

    Gold vs Bitcoin

Good points Aureo. Maybe there could be a default in the sense of the petrodollar de-pegging from the the oil market, as a next phase of the gold/silver notes no longer being redeemable like it mentioned in that link. That's already happening somewhat, with some countries accepting oil payments...

    Coin/Round Stacking copper

Anyone stacking copper? I had been really into finding pre 1982 copper US pennies in pocket change and bank rolls. But I got pulled in other directions until the recent Trump request to stop minting pennies got me thinking about it again. The 95% copper type were starting to become more rare...

    Gold vs Bitcoin

I agree. I think gold is more of a hedge against geopolitical risks. And Bitcoin is more of a hedge against inflation. I have doubts that the US would ever default. Most governments just keep inflating their currency, which devalues the debts. And most financial institutions in the US are...

    Gold vs Bitcoin

I think Bitcoin being called digital gold is probably accurate. When Satoshi disappeared over a decade ago it basically became a digital commodity. And with the Bitcoin Halving Cycles, it might even be somewhat similar to the gold mining supply and demand in the early days. But I think Bitcoin...

    Hey gang

Thanks, I mostly just convert over to silver afterwards from other stuff. I think silver is undervalued and the gold/silver ratio will return more to the historical norms eventually. I think it has interesting properties and industrial uses too.

Coin/Round Why different patina on these silver coins?

Yeah definitely from exposure to something. I remember years ago some people were trying to create toning on their coins by wrapping them in Taco Bell napkins and whatever was in those things would quickly accelerate toning on the coins. I stopped eating Taco Bell after that haha. Careful with...

    Hey gang

Hey there, i just joined from GRF. Been around awhile, but mostly as a lurker and trying to pickup e-scrap and refining knowledge from the crew. I enjoy coin collecting and monetary history and hope to be part of the discussions here on the forum. Looking forward to hearing about everyone's...
